Our Heritage
History of Aba Diocese
Methodism came to Aba in 1917 as a humble house fellowship at Ohuru Uzo Village, planted by indigenous traders who had first embraced the faith in their homeland. What began as weekday hymns and prayer in a private home grew — through decades of missionary decisions, revival and reunification — into Wesley Cathedral, the Diocesan Headquarters.
From a bamboo cottage in Badagry in 1842 to an Archdiocese in Aba today, ours is a story of God’s unfailing faithfulness across generations. Aba is now the Archdiocesan Headquarters of four Dioceses — Aba Main, Owerri, Ndoro and Aba East.
